Bronx high school students join citywide walkout in support of democracy

On May 27, hundreds of high school students from across New York City walked out of class and gathered in Union Square to protest what they see as the Trump administration’s erosion of Constitutional rights and student liberties.

The demonstration was organized in part by students from the High School of American Studies at Lehman College and Bronx Science, operating under We The Students, a nonpartisan coalition formed in response to President Trump’s second term. According to student organizers, participants represented around 20 different schools.

At the rally, students carried handmade signs—some with broad messages like ‘Protect Our Country’ and ‘Respect the Constitution,’ and others sharply criticizing the administration, with slogans such as ‘Morons Are Governing America’ and ‘Ikea Has Better Cabinets.
