Armed with an assault rifle, a gunman entered the lobby of a Manhattan skyscraper and fatally shot a police officer along with two other individuals. He later killed a fourth victim on the 33rd floor before taking his own life.
Tenants of 345 Park Avenue, the building where the shooting took place, were placed on lockdown as fear and panic swept through their offices during what should have been the close of another hot summer day.
Darin Laing, an employee in the building, said he had stepped out with a colleague around 6:30 p.m. to get dinner nearby. Moments later, he heard roughly 20 gunshots fired in quick succession.
Located between East 51st and 52nd Streets, the building is owned by Rudin Management, one of the largest real estate firms in New York City
